Who we are

Girls Alive Uganda was founded in 2019 by a group of 3 passionate Mastercard Foundation  Alumni from Makerere University in Kampala Uganda (Marion Apio, Suzan Mutonyi and Susan Hilda Lokolimoe) individuals who saw a gap in menstrual hygiene management in their home communities and the impact it had on the education of young girls in rural Uganda.

The organization started by providing menstrual hygiene knowledge and skills in making reusable sanitary pads to about 40 girls in Kisoko High School in Tororo where Marion Studied.

Over the past 4 years, the organization has grown and expanded its reach to various rural schools and communities and now conducts school and community outreach across Uganda.

The organization has grown its team of passionate volunteers from 3 to about 60 who are University students and/or recent graduates from various universities in the country.

The volunteers dedicate time to conduct community education and awareness programs on menstrual hygiene management with both boys and girls, parents, teachers, and community leaders and members.

Girls Alive Uganda had also established meaningful partnerships with local and national organizations, institutions and individuals like Free the Needy Foundation, Well Being Foundation, NESA in Kenya, Mastercard Foundation, The Resolution Project, Makerere University, MCFSP at Makerere University, Arise and Shine in Ibanda, Kisoko High School Tororo, Nalongo Primary School Luwero, Mbuya Parish 11 Nakawa, Angaza Community in Ggaba among Others.
